Gym leaders from the (imaginary) Caffe Region with their respective leading Pokemon. Click Download for full size (1000x1400)
This is a little project that my friends and I thought up recently for Fanime2010 and AX2010. We did a little scavenger hunt game in which we gave away a free gym leader badge (made into a button) for whoever came by our artist-alley table and connect pokewalker with us. This little game was surprisingly popular to a point where at AX2010 we ran out of EVERY SINGLE BUTTONS that we made on the THIRD DAY. We stocked 120 buttons for each gym, too.
We had a great time playing the game, even though we just sat behind our table and weren't running around collecting badges. It was great watching people walk around the alley strutting all the badges they had collected.
Because of this, we decided to take the idea a bit further and actually design an original gym leader for each gym and a team of 6 pokemon for each gym leader. This here is a compilation of sketches of the 12 gym leaders from the Caffe Region that I did recently. I thought it was a good practice trying to bring out the personality of characters designed by other people. Especially when there has been no background story to it.
We're planning to also design towns and cities for this region, as well as maps and additional characters. And who knows, maybe if I have time I'll actually make some sort of short comics using these gym leaders.
