Right, where to start?

Here I am again as the disappointing webcomic artist who keeps his readers WAITTing for another update.  I realized the last comic I posted was almost a month ago, and this sudden break happens right after I declared that WAITT was going back to regular schedule.  It is my belief that the main quality a webcomic needs to have is the consistency of update, and I seem to be failing that, so I'd like to apologize.  Some of you will say "Ah, that's alright!" but no, this isn't acceptable.  If you're thinking of making a webcomic, I suggest you make sure you have time (or stock) so you can update it frequently.  Lack of update costs readers, and in the long run, readers determine the success of your webcomic.

After all, really, what am I without all you amazing readers who keeps feeding me with more and more stupid ideas for comics?

Anyway, the reason for this journal entry is not just to apologize, but to explain.  Thanks to recent, unexpected development in the past month, I am now placing WAITT under the status "updated sporadically, and with possibly less quality."  I simply could not find the time for it at the moment.  I am currently juggling a teaching workload (as most of you know I teach college physics) that is twice as much as last year's while at the same time.... uh, exploring a brand new alien world which is taking up a lot, and I really mean A LOT of my free time.

No, I'm not having a kid. Geez.

A few weeks ago I made a blog entry about a dilemma I'm having.  This is related to that, and if you have read the post, I have decided to take the left path and see where it takes me.  I am hoping this will bring improvement in my life, my art, and everything else I'm concerned with.  I know it all seems very cryptic and shit, but in time you will understand why I'm doing this and pushing WAITT down to a lower priority.  If my exploration is successful there will be good news for everyone and, especially, myself.  Hopefully.  This will also mean that I will be less active on DA for awhile.  I will post something every now and then, but it won't be as often anymore.

Three more days until AX 2011!  Since I'm selling there with the rest of the eecafe crew, it might be a good idea to let you guys know where we'll be sitting.  We will be occupying Row B, Table 19-23.  Mine, in particular, is B22.

I might also be auctioning and giving away some original art.  Those who have been to my livestream should know the details of the giveaway.  Remember, first come first serve.

First time going to A-Kon! Will be bringing WAITT and the Tamagotchi books containing Apples & Strawberries!  Supply will be very limited due to baggage limitations, so if you're interested in getting a book, come early!  And by "early" I mean Friday or early Saturday.

Also because I'm flying back Sunday evening, I will have to close up shop by 2pm.  If you're thinking about visiting after that, might want to change your mind.

Here's a map of the Exhibit Hall in which the Artist Alley is located:



Notice the two entrances.  I'm near the entrance, but the farther entrance if you're going from the front lobby of the convention.  Just keep an eye out for that face, or if it scares you too much, look for the One Piece colorspreads.

Next to me on T91 will be , although she will most likely find my face to be too disgusting to admit she's sitting next to me.

These are the list of cons I'm going to this summer.

As usual I'll be selling my colorspreads as 11x17 posters for $15 each or 2 for $20.  Half-sized posters will be available (with less variety) for $5 and postcards for $1.  With every 11x17 poster purchase, you get a free postcard.  It's a great deal!

I will also have WAITT v1 and v2 for sale at those conventions, so if you're a fan of WAITT Comics, don't forget to get your hands on those.  These books won't be printed anymore!  

If you don't plan on buying anything, at least stop by the table and say hi.  If you're also an artist selling at the con, don't be shy to tell me who you are and where you're sitting!  Seating assignments at each con isn't out yet, so I'll post another journal once I get that particular set of information.

Update (2/17/2011): I'm gonna list out the poll results here, as well as comments.

So I thought this would be an interesting game to play.  

I'll make a poll every day or every other day, you guys vote, and the adventure of our character continues based on the result of the polls.  Like for example, as of this moment, the "You see a fork in the road, which way do you go?" poll seems to be favoring left.  So tonight or tomorrow night, I'll make another poll about another decision our character has to make, and you guys get to decide what our character should do!

It's like those Choose-Your-Own-Adventure books, except it's online, on DA, and using public polls.

1. Thought Experiment: You see a fork in the road. You must choose. Which way do you go?  
Result:  Left (51%) / Right (49%)
Comment: Well, this is interesting. I had anticipated that Right would win over Left, if not by a landslide. But perhaps that shows how naive I am considering I predicted that result based on the fact that there are more right-handed people than there are left-handed in this world.  And I certainly did not anticipate you rebels who think that people are gonna vote Right and so you should vote left instead.

2. So you head left. You see a dark, menacing forest in front of you. On the ground, there are three items. Which one do you pick up before heading into the forest?
Result: Sword (52%) / Flute (26%) / Shield (22%)
Comment: It seems that 52% of the people out there have a tendency to simply hack and slash their way out of trouble.  Only 22% would actually pick up something that will give them a decent defense.  But most surprisingly, the other 26% have an idea of survival that involves a magical flute, without actually knowing whether or not the flute is magical.

3. Okay, let's back up a bit here and design our character first. So you walk into a forest with a sword. But what are you?
Result: Girl (63%) / Boy (37%)
Comment: Again my prediction that the boys would pick "Boy" and that the girls would also pick "Boy" because they like to fantasize about hot boys is proven wrong.  Apparently what I have here is a bunch of girls who like girls and a bunch of boys who like crossdressing.

4. So you're a Girl walking into a dark menacing forest carrying a sword you just picked up off the ground! How old are you?
Result: <20 (44%) / 20-30 (39%) / Granny (13%) / 30-40 (3%)
Comment: It makes me sad that the public essentially prefers a jailbait over an ass-kicking granny.  I will get you back for this, general public! /fistshake

5. You enter the forest carrying a sword. About a hundred yards in, you meet an old man who offered a map of the forest in exchange of a flute... that you didn't pick up because you were only allowed to pick up one item. What do you do?
Result: Stab the old man, steal map (56%) / Go back and exchange sword for flute (44%)
Comment: I can safely conclude that 56% of you would try to hackslash your way through everything instead of trying for the elegant solution. Barbaric.

6. With your sword you stabbed the old man in the gut, which broke your sword in half! The old man dropped the map and eerily turned into a thick black smoke shaped like some horrible monster twice your size. What do you do?
Result: Grab map, run like hell (73%) / Hopelessly fight with broken sword (27%)
Comment: The general public has Usopp mentality. Surprise, surprise.  Although attempting to fight the monster will get you kidnapped and violated in a smoky manner, so overall, good choice there.

7. You run, not looking back. Strangely, the smoke monster isn't chasing, so you stop running. You realize you no longer know where you are, so you check the map, which turned out to be a BLANK piece of paper. What now?
Result: Keep going! (74%) / Go back (18%) / Break down and cry (8%)
Comment:  It's too bad, you guys should've picked "Break down and cry". Breaking down and crying will cause the fairy godmother to show up and teleport you out of the forest.  

8. With a blank piece of paper and a broken sword you move forward, hoping that your fortune would improve. Several steps forward, you tripped over something and fell. Cursing, you looked down and saw a box buried in the ground. What do you do?
Result: Dig (88%) / Ignore (12%)
Comment:  Looks like the general public never learns.  After continuously getting screwed over by nature, you'd do best to ignore boxes lying underground.

9. You dig up the box with your broken sword. "Goddamn, this box is huge!" you say to yourself. After an hour of digging, you realize that the box is actually a COFFIN. Inside you find:
Result: Gagged Loincloth Warrior (41%) / Puppy (37%) / Ungraceful Princess (22%)
Comment:  I do not want to know what's in the mind of the 41% who voted the Loincloth Warrior, but I think I fear more to know what's in the mind of the 37% who picked the puppy.

10. The loincloth warrior in the coffin mumbled incoherently. His arms and legs are tied, and his mouth is gagged. You think, "This guy can help me defend myself, I am a girl after all!", so you decided to help him. What do you untie first?  
Result: Mouth (69%) / Loincloth (21%) / Arms (6%) / Legs (4%)
Comment: Oh well, it was worth putting that Loincloth option there.  Obviously 21% of you out there are thinking PENIS.

11. You untied the cloth around his mouth. Before you can ask anything, the man's loincloth GLOW and he shouted, "THE KEY TO SAVE THE WORLD IS IN MY LOINCLOTH! UNWRAP IT AND HELP ME SAVE THE WORLD!" What do you do?
Result: Untied Loincloth (64%) / Walk Away (36%)
Comment:  It looks like 64% of you are really thinking PENIS, but are too rational (or embarrassed) to admit it in the previous poll.

12.  You unwrapped the loincloth to reveal a large, phallic key, glowing bright green. "Take the key and protect it," the man said, "For evil forces will want its power!" Suddenly, the man twitches in pain and dies. The "key" fell off his crotch. What now?
Result: Take Key (77%) / Walk Away (23%)
Comment:  Radioactive penis.  That's gonna stick with you for awhile.

Taking a break until around the end of February.  I have a short-term comic project to finish, so there probably won't be any new submission over here until then.  I apologize for delaying WAITT again, when I've promised that this year will be different, but this comic project I'm doing is an opportunity to try something new, something different.  I owe a lot of you One Piece fanarts as well, so I'll try to crank those out once this hiatus ends as well.

Again, sorry for the inconvenience.  I'll put up the end product of this short-term project once I'm done, so you guys can enjoy it too.

Don't mock me, I'm not even in the Reborn fandom anymore.  But does anyone still remember the story of narcoleptic Primo/Giotto with his retarded guardians?



If not, here's quick recap: in 2007/2008 I started a little parody comic called Vongola History Lesson (VHL), exploring the life of Primo, Secondo, and their guardians, because at the time there was nothing official about them in the manga.  The story was finally finished in 2009 and was printed as a book.  I received about 70-80 preorders of the book from this community alone that year, and managed to sell at least 50 more copies through conventions in 2009 and 2010, until I sold the last battered copy I had this summer.  Since then I have received several notes/emails/messages asking me if I'm going to sell anymore copies of VHL, to which I had to answer no because I simply don't have the time and resources to bulk-print more copies of it without knowing how much I would actually sell.

But that is no longer a problem now!  I have set up an account at Indy Planet where you can purchase a copy of VHL if you want to.  This makes things a lot easier for me because I wouldn't have to shell out the initial investment to get them printed, and I wouldn't have to deal with shipping either o/

Anyway, if you've been trying to get a copy, you can now do so through Indy Planet.

I had planned for this to be a Christmas present to all you loyal readers, but the coding took longer than I expected.  But it's done: WAITT! now has its own official website!

I have always dreamed of having a dedicated online reader for WAITT!Comics, where people can read through from the first page to the most recent one without having to dig through DA gallery or pages of blogspot or livejournal.  Well, this winter break I decided to give myself a crash course of Javascript and make that dream come true.  After two long weeks of learning and coding, it is now ready!  The online reader should function similarly to those online readers at mangafox or mangareader or onemanga, but with less clutter and most importantly, no ads.

Status updates will be on the NEWS section of the site, which is updated through the twitter account @WAITTcomics.  My @e1n account will now only be used for non-WAITT-related posts, so if you're interested in seeing WAITT updates, like sketches, ideas, etc, follow @WAITTcomics on Twitter.

The Blog section is not yet set up.  The blog exists, but still needs to be styled and re-coded, since the default look is horrible.  Give it a few more weeks and I'll start posting musings in the Blog section.

If you also own a webcomic, note me and we can talk about affiliations.  

Lastly, just to be clear, WAITT!Comics is NOT leaving DeviantArt.  It started out here, gained its fanbase here, so it would only be fair that it stays here.  The updates on Facebook, LJ, and Blogspot will be discontinued, however.

There will be more surprises to celebrate the start of 2011, but for now, that's all.
